Week 12

This week was presentation week and so we were scrambling to get the presentation ready to show to everybody. We also had to decide between what reverse side to use.

The 2 options were:

We selected the second one as we felt it fitted best with the new menu.

The final presentation went well and I felt that I had gotten over most of my presentation fears.

The final handout looks like this:

Week 11

this week we were prepering to present and this means that we had to make a power point presentation showing our:
- Market research
- Different design ideas
- Our shoot
- As well as the the preparations towards the final design.

we also finished the final drafts of our leaflet. they look really good and so we spent a lot of time to make small changes to make them look as good as possible.

i am very happy with the results and feel ready for the presentation next week.

Week 10

This week we took our final pictures of the food. This meant that we had to go down to the restaurant and take as many good pictures from different angles and of different dishes that were there. This was hard work because for each shot we needed to change the position of the plate the camera angle and move the light reflector. I did well in this and took a very forward role in it as well as controlling myself enough to let the other members of my group take a turn to use the cameras and set up the shots.

These pictures are all shots that my group made.

we also continued with our final designs making sure the look reallygood and making them as ready as possible before we took the shots. this went well and i used a special program on my laptop to create a really amazing trial image this worked well.

i felt that i have included my group as much a possible through the use of email as well a talking to them on the day about what we should do.

Over all i felt i worked well and did a lot of good work towards the end of the project.

Week 9

this week we did lots of questionnaires about what people thought about our flyers it way really fun but i found that i was nervous about asking people to answer our questionnaire. however we go quite a few responses for the time we had.

we also made some good final versions of our handouts. they look really good and during the week in made a really good version of one. and on the day also made a really good final version of our other idea.

Week 8

This week we started by having a catch up lesson to make sure we are all at the same stage. I worked well but found i had little to do as i had already done all but one of the tasks. the one task i did do went well and i could help out a member of my group with another task i had already done.

In the second part of the day we worked more as groups continuing our designs and making final designs. i worked well drawing up a final design as well as helping improve on another and annotating the work.

Original other idea:

Improved other idea:

My annotated idea:

i think i did really well and produced some good work.

Week 7

This week we did some research about food and what made a good food photograph we got the chance to practice taking good pictures of the food provided. This did not go as well as it could have so I have decided to take pictures of the food I eat at home to improve my skill in that area.

This is a picture of some of the food we took pictures of. I think it is an OK photo but there are areas to improve for example t is too crowded and the background looks messy because it is not one colour but a whole scene.

This is a professional photo of some food and I aim to mach it some day.

we also had a group discussion about how we should make the handout look we made good progress making a final decision on what we should make the handout look like. i contributed well in the group but sometimes found that my ideas were ignored.

Week 6

This week we went to the Orange Tree Cafe in Cambridge and were given a brief to make an A5 leaflet advertising the cafe and also letting people know that it is there.

Background:

The orange tree used to be
called Cafe 11 and has recently been taken under new management and is now being marketed as a country modern cafe that is inexpensive but up class establishment. It has just made a new menu and has been refurbished from head to toe.

Brief:

Our brief is to make an A5 handout to draw attention to the cafe and let people know that the orange tree cafe is open for business. We also need to show that it is making good quality home cooked food that is also inexpensive.

Also our handout has to be able to be put on the Internet or distributed via email to gain interest through that medium.

I made good progress towards the brief describing what we had to do well and feel ready for the next stage of the project.

Week 5

This week we finished the project about selling the camera equipment for the right price and then getting the information about the product to the right people. In my group I took a leading role in making our poster and communicated will with my group. In the presentation I Didn't speak as well as I could have but tried my hardest to present the information we collected in a profesional presentation.

In the afternoon we worked in the same groups but this time making a brand of dog food called doggie yum we made a few good ideas and by the end of the time limit we had made a really good logo combining 2 of our ideas to make a really good one. In the group I worked well contributing my ideas and communicating as best as possible with the rest of my teem. I think the final outcome showed that we all were able to contribute but also struggled with the presentation at the end.

We also did some more work on our research project comparing 2 adverts. I chose the compeer the meerkat adverts and made some good progress towards the end but still have lots more work to do.

Campaigning

In today's lesson we started the digital camera topic and started by discussing what made a good advert and how the position of the ad can be very important. The best place to put an ad is in the top left corner on the page because this is where you start reading from; because of this magazines charge more for this area than for ads in other places.

Afterwards we made a summary of all the different types of advertising campaigns like raising awareness and stating a point of view.

This is a picture of my mind map on types of campaigns:

In the afternoon we started our own campaign trying to sell some camera equipment. In my group we made good progress working out how much to sell the items for and also made a good poster advertising them.

digital film and DARK ROOM...

Today we were in the DARK ROOM to make our film pictures. We started off making the film reels fixed to stop them getting over exposed in the sun light. this is because before the film is fixed then the reel is very sensitive to light so even a fraction of a second of sunlight will ruin the picture. To stop this the procedure is done in a light proof bag. After this is done we have to leave the film to dry for a while.
Once the film dried we made the pics larger and printed them onto photographic paper. However first we did have to make a test exposing different parts of the picture with different amounts of light. This let us know how much exposure the paper needs to get a good picture.

We also took some digital photography that had to include a certain object in every shot. I had to include a car headlight. My photos worked well and I also used a mini tripod to get a really good shot from a weird perspective. Our shots had to include leading lines, rule of thirds and balance to name but 3. Afterwards we edited the pics in photoshop to improve contrast and also crop the pictures we took.

editing and still photography (film)

This week we edited the footage we took last week about why we picked the creative and media diploma. My group worked quite well while using the software Adobe Premiere Pro.
A piece of software that lets you add music and create feature length films with lots of different angles in. This means that you can create films of someone about to sit down and then, with a continuous motion, be looking at the scene from a different angle but the person is still in the middle of sitting down. I think I worked well but did struggle to share the mouse with the group. Overall I think are group did a good job of the editing.
In the afternoon we did some still camera work using film cameras for each shot we had to change the shutter speed to make the picture look good and not look too dark (under exposed) or too light over exposed. This took a lot of time so it was very lucky that my friend had the exposure right when some planes flew overhead. I think I did a good job with the camera because I usually managed to get the exposure right and got some good leading lines in my shots.

(This is not one of my shots but is a good example of leading lines.)

However I did struggle with framing as only a couple of my pictures were framed like this one I found on the web.

1st day on the job

I arrived really early on the first day so I helped set up somevideo cameras. When the rest of the class arrived we were told about the different projects we will be doing and that we will make a new blog for each project so keep checking my profile for new blogs.

Later on I got put in a group and we had to record why we had chosen to take the CRAM diploma. We managed to get lots of good shots with Sony HDV 1080i's.

I got a chance to be the sound man, the camera man and also be in front of the camera. My favorite job was being the camera man as I find the easier and also doesn't make my are go numb.

We made the shots look really good by using white balance and changing the exposure.

The cameras had multiple settings for white balance like indoor, outdoor, auto and custom were you can set it up for yourself. This is so it is set up perfectly for the light conditions you are in.

We also changed exposure to stop the shot becoming to bright or to dark. We didn't do it on one of the shots and it looked very bad because it was just white and so we had to redo that one.

At the end of the day we looked at each others work and shared our opinions of the work we did.

Tintin Exhibition

I went to an exhibition on a a french comic book. I saw how it was made into a TV show and what they based the graphics on, this turned out to be a chateau in the loire called Cheverny.

This shows the Chateau.

This shows Marlinspike Hall.

This shows how Marlinspike Hall is based on the Chateau.
Marlinspike Hall is the Chateau minus the left and right wings.

In the trenches

The other day I went to see the trenches of world war one with Swavesey Village College. I took some footage about the are i visited as well as some film.

This is the Memorial to the people who died in the Somme but their bodies were not found.

This picture is of a book containing the names of people who's bodies have never been found. Apparently the name I'm pointing to may have been my Great Grandfather.

A few vids

just a few videos i took with my Panasonic today cause i was bored:

Background Info

I have played lots of instruments like the piano, trombone and drums. however i am no longer playing any of these instruments. i don't dance as the last time i did i made a complete fool of my self. i am OK at drama but am not especially good. i have not had the opportunity to do any stage work or lighting so am unsure about how good i am at that.

I few months ago i filmed a presentation about what it is like at Swavesey VC. It is a short 10 minute film it went well and i got a prize for it (the prize was a £10 Cineworld gift card.

I have also created a website this year in ICT including an animation, poster and logo.

i also really enjoy photography and often take photos i have recently taken some at the Swavesey flower festival a couple of weeks ago.
I do art once a week and quite enjoy it but i would not say I'm at stand out from the class level.

I like watching a wide range of things like Doctor Who and Star Trek (yes I'm a treky). i also like listening to music like the the Hoosiers and Hillsong United.

I have quite a good background of information on computers so am able to work out most of the things i need to do if i hit a road block.
i own my own video camera (a Panasonic SDR-S15) and take it out to film things that catch my eye but would look better as a film rather than a picture.
I have not had many opportunities to do video editing but when i have i have really enjoyed it.
I can sometimes be a little disorganized but normaly if i have my heart in it i do remember to do it (and at a high quality too).
